Report: Habs to play outdoor game in Ottawa in 2017

According to reports, the Montreal Canadiens will play an outdoor game in Ottawa next year.

The game will be part of the National Hockey League’s extensive Centennial celebrations. Ottawa had originally wanted the game to be at Parliament Hill but will have to settle for TD Place.

It was long expected the Canadiens would play a role in the Centennial celebrations of the league. This would be the fourth outdoor game that the Canadiens will play, all on the road. They previously played in Edmonton, Calgary, and most recently the Winter Classic in Boston.

The biggest hurdle for the Canadiens hosting a game is the lack of an obvious venue. Almost any outdoor game would need to be played at a temporary venue but the city doesn’t lack options for that to take place.

Options include the former Hippodrome, or Parc Jean-Drapeau.
