Price and Subban receive invites to Team Canada orientation camp

Hockey Canada released their list of invitees for Team Canada’s orientation camp in anticipation of the upcoming Olympic winter games in Sochi.

Canadiens‘ goalie Carey Price and Norris winner P.K. Subban will be attending the camp in Calgary, to be held in late August.

Price will be competing against fellow goaltenders Roberto Luongo, Mike Smith, Corey Crawford and Braden Holtby.

With Luongo likely winning the starter job, Price will look to gain a foothold as the #2 goaltender. Price backstopped the 2007 team Canada world juniors to a gold medal, as well as winning the award for the best goaltender of tournament, best goals against average & best save percentage. He was also a member of the 2007 WJC all-star team and was named the most valuable player of the tournament.

Subban will look to etch himself a spot among a very strong crop of defensemen. Unlike Price, Subban’s spot should be guaranteed. He is coming off a fantastic season in the NHL, which culminated in a Norris trophy win.

Subban will be facing top competition for a spot on the team, including the follow d-men: Drew Doughty, Duncan Keith, Kris Letang, Alex Pietrangelo & Shea Weber.

Equipment manager Pierre Gervais was invited to be a part of Team Canada as well.

Update:

Russia also released their preliminary roster today, which included Andrei Markov and Alexei Emelin.

Team USA has announced that both Alex Galchenyuk and Max Pacioretty were invited to their camp.
