The Montreal Canadiens have announced that they’ve agreed to a two-year contract with Phillip Danault.

Financial details of the contract aren’t known, but we will update when they become available.
UPDATE: The deal has an average annual value of $912,500, and, like many of the recent contracts handed out to depth players, is a one-way contract.

Danault was acquired at the trade deadline from the Chicago Blackhawks, along with a second-round pick in 2018. Going the other way was fan favourite Dale Weise, and Tomas Fleischmann.
Although he wasn’t a game changer, Danault’s production during his short audition with the Habs was quite respectable, and he should have a spot on the roster going into next season.

MONTREAL – Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin announced on Tuesday that the team has agreed to terms on a two-year contract with forward Phillip Danault.
Danault first joined the Habs organization during the 2015-16 campaign as part of a trade that saw Dale Weise and Tomas Fleischmann head back to the Chicago Blackhawks in return. Danault appeared in 21 games with the Habs last season, collecting three goals and adding another two assists.
The Victoriaville, Quebec, native, who has suited up for 53 games in his NHL career, has amassed a total of four goals and six assists to date. Drafted by the Blackhawks with the 26th overall selection in 2011, Danault will be entering his sixth season of professional hockey next campaign.
