With the first days of on-ice activity in the books, the prospects spoke with the media about how the summer seminars are going, and talk about their immediate and not-too-distant hockey futures.
Charles Hudon
2015-16 Season with St. John’s IceCaps: 28 G – 25 A — 53 P, 79 PIMs (also had two assists in three NHL games played)
After playing with the Canadiens for a few games last season, Hudon is hoping to be able to earn a spot on the team this season, and knows he needs to put in the work to make that happen.
Nikita Scherbak
2015-16 Season with St. John’s IceCaps: 7 G – 16 A — 23 P, 20 PIMs
After one professional season, Scherbak feels he’s closer to playing in the NHL. He’s not fazed by the addition of new players who could challenge his place in the organization. Just the opposite, he’s enjoying taking new players under his wing and showing them what development camp is all about.
Mikhail Sergachev
2015-16 Season with Windsor Spitfires: 17 G – 40 A — 57 P, 56 PIMs
The top draft choice is hoping to play with the Canadiens to start the season, but admits that going back to the Memorial Cup host, the Windsor Spitfires, would be a good place to play this year. He’s excited by all the Russians the Canadiens are adding to the roster.
Simon Bourque
2015-16 Season with Rimouski Oceanic: 12 G – 34 A — 46 P, 50 PIMs
This past season, Bourque was named captain of a Rimouski Oceanic team that saw some turnover on defence, and was very proud that he and his leadership group were still able to qualify for the post-season. He feels a late-season trial run with the IceCaps was a good end to a strong campaign.
Michael McCarron
2015-16 Season with St. John’s IceCaps: 17 G – 21 A — 38 P, 91 PIMs (one goal, one assist in 20 NHL games)
McCarron is embracing the veteran status he now has at the annual development camp, but knows his best chance of making an impression is to play his regular game. He lists increasing his foot speed as the main target for improvement this summer
Jeremy Grégoire
2015-16 Season with St. John’s IceCaps: 6 G – 5 A — 11 P, 70 PIMs
Grégoire has witnessed the departure of two of the AHL teams leaders, and knows he is one of the few francophone players remaining on the squad. He hopes to use his all-around ability to be a leader on the ice for the team this upcoming season.
Martin Réway
2015-16 Season with HC Fribourg-Gottéron: 8 G – 13 A — 21 P, 14 PIMs (five goals, 10 assists in Czech Extraliga)
Réway returns to North America after playing professionally in various European leagues last year. His goal is to make the NHL, and he’s prepared to do whatever it takes to achieve that goal.
Francis Bouillon
This year, development camp isn’t just for inexperienced players. Francis Bouillon is making his debut as a drill instructor, and went behind the bench for a scrimmage on Sunday. His coaching career began with an 8-3 win, so if his goal to take the reins behind the Canadiens’ bench, he’s off to a great start.
