P.K. Subban will be surrounded by jokes this August, and I’m not talking about teammates in a pre-season game.
The Canadiens defenceman was officially announced as a host for a Just For Laughs gala this morning.
Did someone say “@PKSubban1 All-Star Comedy Gala in support of @HopitalChildren“?! Aug 1 –> https://t.co/L2h3H8jw2J pic.twitter.com/ii5RdZEn3G

Gala hosts typically act as masters of ceremony, with a short monologue followed by short routines while introducing several comedians. Typically, this is a role set for performers. Last year’s gala hosts included Neil Patrick Harris and Howie Mandel. Mandel is also among the gala hosts this year.
Subban’s gala will be August 1 at Place des Arts. Subban has a history at the festival, appearing on stage with the Stanley Cup at a Seth Rogen gala, and helped Rogen drink beer out of the cup. His charity basketball game with Snoop Dogg in June is also being promoted by the festival.
His impact in the community makes you sometimes forget that Subban is not local to the city, although he has made Montreal his home. It’s rare to see a Canadiens player, especially a current one, play such an active role in the city.
With Subban’s charisma and personality, he should have no problem living up to the expectations of the great festival.
