Overseas Habs & Prospects Weekly Report 8

Name League Team Timeline Games Goals Assists Points
Tomas Plekanec Czech Extraliga Kladno Last Week 2 0 0 0
Total 19 14 14 28

No points for Plekanec this week. He was bound to cool off a little bit after that exceedingly hot stretch the last two weeks. Hopefully he gets back on the score sheet next game.

Lars Eller SM Liiga Jyvaskyla Last Week 1 2 0 2
Total 1 2 0 2

Eller exploded onto the scene in the SM Liiga with 2 goals and a game winning goal in the shootout for his new team. This is even more impressive when you realize that the Finnish league is notoriously hard to score in. Remember back when people thought Eller would never score in a Habs uniform at all?

Raphael Diaz National League EV Zug Last Week 2 2 1 3
Total 19 5 14 19

After a couple of cold weeks, Diaz got back on the score sheet this week in a big way with two goals and an assist in just 2 games. Back up to a point per game and dominating the Swiss league, you couldn’t ask much more from Raphael.

Andrei Markov KHL Vityaz Chekhov Last Week 0 0 0 0

Still no games for Markov since October 26th. Hopefully he’s just being careful because this is a little while for something he called “nothing to worry about”.

Alexei Emelin KHL Ak Bars Kazan Last Week 2 0 0 0

Two games and no points for Emelin. While it would be nice to see Emelin hit the score sheet more often, that’s not really his job.

Scott Gomez ECHL Alaska Aces Last Week 2 1 1 2
Total 2 1 1 2

Gomez began his season late, but began it with a bang. A goal and an assist in his first ECHL game isn’t a bad thing. He was held pointless last night but fired 4 shots at the net.

Sebastian Collberg Elitserien Frölunda Last Week 0 0 0 0
Total 16 0 2 2
Allsvenskan Örebro HK
Last Week 2 0 1 1
Total 8 2 1 3

Collberg got his first assist in the Allsvenskan this week. He also played two games for Sweden U20 4 nations cup and scored a goal there with a +1 rating.

Magnus Nygren Elitserien Färjestads Last Week 2 0 3 3
Total 22 6 9 15

Nygren continues to impress, putting up a ton of points for Färjestads. I’m still unsure if Nygren has the defensive skills to make it in the NHL, but he’s making a case for himself as a very legitimate prospect.

Erik Nystrom Super Elit U20 Modo U20 Last Week 1 1 2 3

Nystrom hasn’t slowed at all, racking up the points in one game this week. I’m beginning to wonder if he has an outside shot at Sweden’s World Junior team.

Alex Galchenyuk OHL Sarnia Sting Last Week 3 1 4 5
Total 22 13 22 35

Last night Galchenyuk only recorded 1 assist, ending his 5 game streak of multi-point games. BUST!!

On a serious note, Galchenyuk now has an assist per game in the OHL, and is tied for 3rd overall in the OHL’s scoring race. This kid is good. Not only is he ripping it up, he’s doing it largely without help.

Brady Vail OHL Windsor Spitfires Last Week 1 2 0 2

Last week I called for Archambault to step it up if he wants to make the show. I guess he was listening because he exploded this week, nearly doubling his goal total and getting back to above a point per game.

Hudon is back to his former self it seems, riding a 4 game point streak for Chicoutimi with 7 points over that time. He also received rave reviews for his performance for the QMJHL in the Subway Series vs Russia, even though he failed to record a point in two games.

A solid week from Dietz with two assists in two games. He’s on almost an identical pace as last season, although if he keeps up his current point split he would jump from 15 goals last season to 22 this year.

Tim Bozon WHL Kamloops Blazers Last Week 3 1 4 5

Bozon had been struggling to put up points lately after everything was effortless for him to start the year, but last night may be a sign that he’s back to his scoring ways. He scored just 52 seconds into the game and added 3 assists by the end of the night.
