Canadiens vs. Sharks Top Six Minutes: San Jose takes a bite out of the Habs
The Habs continue on with their three-year losing streak against the Sharks
For our new readers and members, the Top Six Minutes is a continuation of the discussion in the game thread. We try to keep it light and entertaining. Full recaps are up the morning after every game.
Pre-game
- I don’t know if you heard or not but... our losing streak is over!/
First period
- Benn slides to take away a shot. Stepping up your game now that Weber’s back, hey Jordie?
- Turnover in the neutral zone and the Sharks attack first just three minutes in.
- Domi flies down the ice with determination but Jones was ready for him.
- Reilly doesn’t know his own strength and heads to the sin bin for crosschecking.
- Chaput must have thought Reilly looked lonely so he joins him in the box, giving the Sharks 1:03 to play 5-on-3. That’s ok. We can kill it, right?
- Wrong.
- First we give Braun his first goal. Then we help Burns snap his goalless streak. I think we’ve been nice enough for tonight fellas.
- The Sharks get too excited and too many men jump on the ice. Time to break out those power play powers Weber.
- Well, he took the top half of Jones’ stick off so if nothing else, Weber scared the bejeezus out of him./
Second period
- Agostino gets a hard knock behind the net by Simek. Shake it off Agostino. Shake it off.
- Price goes to play the puck behind the net and ends up on his back in front of the net. Thankfully, the Sharks didn’t capitalize on Price’s Big Adventure.
- The adventure must have done him good. What a save on Sorensen! That’s your cue to take it up a notch guys.
- Petry bangs the puck off Jones’s mask, then follows through on the rebound to cut the lead in half! Good plan. Stun Jones first then slip the puck past him.
- Annnnd the Sharks take back their two-goal lead.
- In an attempt to wake up his team, Weber wakes up Goodrow. Hard.
- Weber AND Petry are both in the box for 18 seconds. Longest 18 seconds ever./
Third period
- The Sharks are currently riding a four-game losing streak. The Habs haven’t beaten San Jose since 2015. Sooo...anyone’s game?
- Gallagher and Dillon exchange words in front of the Sharks net that makes the ref giggle.
- Then he gets wallpapered into the boards by Simek. No more giggling.
- Byron on top of Jones but couldn’t psych him out.
- Agostino may have survived the hit in the second period, but blocking a Brent Burns one-timer equals an immediate hobble to the dressing room.
- The Habs have three times more shots on goal (12) than the Sharks (4) halfway though. Time to start crossing fingers for a third-period comeback.
- Shaw’s going to need a therapy day after this period.
- Power play chance in the final three minutes. No time for fancy!
- Fancy. Not fancy. Either way, the Habs extend their three-year losing streak against the Sharks. /
