Canadiens vs. Rangers third period thread

Brendan Gallagher’s replacement got on the board early in the second period. Devante Smith-Pelly banged home a Max Pacioretty pass for his second goal of the year, splitting away from his coverage and finding himself all alone in front of Henrik Lundqvist.

The Habs got into some penalty trouble midway through the second period, taking consecutive penalties four minutes apart. During that span of play, the Rangers put up nine shot attempts and six shots on net. The Rangers got their third powerplay in a row, with Alex Galchenyuk slashing apart Oscar Lindberg’s stick. Ryan McDonagh took a shot from the point, beating Carey Price high with Oscar Lindberg providing the screen in front of him.

The Habs penalty trouble cost them another perfect period. They’ll have their hands full trying to hold off the Rangers in the third. The Rangers found a surge of energy after their goal, and held the Canadiens to just two shot attempts in the final half of the period where the Habs took three minor penalties.
