Canadiens vs. Blue Jackets second period thread

It was a pretty wide open start, with both teams getting odd man rushes before the first couple of minutes had been played. The Canadiens jumped to a 9-2 lead in shot attempts by the five-minute mark of the first period. By the time former Hab Rene Bourque gave the Habs their first powerplay of the game, the Canadiens led 13-7 in shot attempts.

Fedor Tyutin got sent off a minute into the Bourque penalty, giving the Habs a chance to open the scoring on a five on three. Brendan Gallagher scored from the side of the net trying to pass the puck to the slot to Max Pacioretty, and deflecting it off Jack Johnson instead and into the net.

The Blue Jackets drew even with 5:20 remaining in the first period on a tunrover by Mark Barberio in the defensive zone which eventually led to Cam Atkinson beating Mike Condon from the slot to tie it 1-1. The Blue Jackets grabbed the momentum with the goal, getting the next nine of ten shot attempts for the remainder of the period.

It’s 1-1 heading into the second period.
