Canadiens vs. Sabres third period thread

Alex Galchenyuk added to his point total, setting up Greg Pateryn for a one-timer and Pateryn’s first ever NHL goal with under a minute played in the second period. Alex Galchenyuk made sure Pateryn got the puck for his first career goal in the big leagues.

Pateryn took a tripping penalty moments later, but the Habs were able to kill the penalty without giving up much to the Sabres. The Habs were building off the early goal and were demonstrating more speed, taking more risks. I would love nothing better than to see the Habs abandon the structure and play all-or-nothing for the rest of the season.

The Habs had a chance on the powerplay six minutes into the second period, but they continue to be unreliable with the man advantage. With P.K. Subban missing, the powerplay is a whole new low, even with Alex Galchenyuk’s ability to snipe from the faceoff circle.

Mark Barberio left the game midway through the second period and won’t return, adding to the Canadiens‘ injury woes.

Mike Brown, who was brought in for his toughness, added to his penalty minute total since arriving from San Jose by taking a double minor for roughing late in the second period in retaliation to a cross-check to the face. This incident sparked another, whistle after whistle until it culminated in a brawl on the ice between nearly every player, with Ben Scrivens even inviting Robin Lehner to throw down.

The Habs ended up with a powerplay when the dust settled, and would take the lead on an Andrei Markov shot from the point that deflected off Brian Gionta on its way to the net to go up 2-1.
