Canadiens vs. Sabres third period thread

Ben Scrivens‘ hot run was doused just over a minute into the second period. Josh Gorges buried his second goal of the season, chasing Scrivens who was caught out of position on the goal. Mike Condon came in replacement, and within fifty the second, the Sabres were up 4-1, with the Sabres third line getting on the board again.

Evander Kane and P.K. Subban got into a little bit of a heated exchange. P.K. backed off as Kane aggressed. Both were given minor penalties, creating some four on four. Then, the Canadiens would draw a penalty to go up four on three. Needing to score to get back into the game, the Habs squandered the first 1:59 of the powerplay trying to set something up. With one second remaining on the man advantage, Alex Galchenyuk fired off a one-timer to draw the Habs to within two.

Sven Andrighetto drew the Habs to within one on a very bad turnover by Chad Johnson from behind his own net. Andrighetto made no mistake with his shot into the empty net.

Mike Condon would then face some tests, as the Sabres started to pour on a little offense. Reliance on Condon culminated in a Sabres’ powerplay, and then a penalty shot. Condon was not able to stop Marcus Foligno on the penalty shot. The Habs went down 5-3 with just over two minutes left in the second period.

The Habs caught the Sabres with too many men on the ice and went to the powerplay. Birthday boy Alex Galchenyuk scored his second goal of the game, an almost identical goal he had scored earlier in the period.

What a wild night in Buffalo. It’s 5-4 Sabres.
