Canadiens vs. Sabres second period thread

Sven Andrighetto put the Habs on the board on the line’s second shift of the game with David Desharnais and Max Pacioretty both drawing assists on the play. The Canadiens continued to attack, registering seven shots on net on eight shot attempts in the first eight minutes of the game before P.K. was penalized for what looked close to a slewfoot on Evander Kane.

The Sabres only registered one shot on net on the subsequent powerplay, but spent enough time in the Canadiens’ zone to establish an offensive rhythm. With just over seven minutes left in the first period, the Sabres tied it up with David Legwand sprung on a short breakaway as the Sabres crossed the Habs’ blue line. Legwand buried a low shot to tie the game 1-1.

The Habs got a powerplay late in first after Zach Bogosian got a little cross-checky with Brendan Gallagher in front of the Sabres’ net. The Habs had some pressure, but couldn’t convert. The Canadiens had an enormous lead in shot attempts by the end of the powerplay, leading the Sabres 16-8.

The Sabres hadn’t registered a shot attempt since they tied it up, almost seven minutes, Evander Kane put them up 2-1 with his fourteenth of the season.

The Habs lead 11-7 in shots on net, and 22-10 in shot attempts, but trail in the game 2-1.
