Two days after Elias Lindholm was traded to the Vancouver Canucks, the market intensified for Montreal Canadiens centre Sean Monahan, and the team has traded him to the Winnipeg Jets for a 2024 first round pick and an additional conditional pick on Friday.
The trade was first reported as close by Pierre LeBrun. Darren Dreger was the first to report the return. The trade is now official.
The first round pick is a 2024 pick and the conditional pick is a third round pick in 2027 if the Jets win the Stanley Cup, first reported by Dreger.
Monahan is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. He re-signed with the Canadiens this past offseason on a one-year contract with a cap hit of $1.985 million.
In 49 games this season, Monahan has 13 goals and 22 assists for 35 points. Last season, injuries limited him to 25 games where he had six goals and 11 assists.
Monahan was acquired from the Calgary Flames with a first-round pick for future considerations before the 2022-23 season.
The Jets are third in the Central Division with 65 points.
