Following the conclusion of his sophomore NCAA season, Lane Hutson has signed with the Montreal Canadiens.
The contract was first announced by Elliotte Friedman, and is now official.
Hutson and Boston University made it to the NCAA’s Frozen Four as one of the best collegiate teams in the United States, losing to Denver in overtime in the semifinals on Thursday. The Michigan native is expected to join the team in Detroit.
The defenceman finished his season with 15 goals and 34 assists in 37 games, one point more than he had in his freshman season a year ago. He ended up with the second-highest point total on his team, behind the presumptive first overall selection in the upcoming NHL Draft, Macklin Celebrini. Hutson also won a gold medal with Team USA at the World Juniors this year, finishing the event with the most assists by a blue-liner and named to the tournament all-star team.
The deal goes through the 2025-26 campaign. He will be one of the many defencemen currently slated to be in the mix to make the Habs roster in the fall.
