The Montreal Canadiens have sent forward Nikita Scherbak back to the American Hockey League’s Laval Rocket this morning.

The move is somewhat unexpected due to Scherbak’s success playing with Jonathan Drouin and Alex Galchenyuk but he is the only Canadiens forward to not require waivers. With Andrew Shaw and Phillip Danault nearing a return, they needed to send someone down quickly.
I expect Scherbak, who has a goal and two assists in nine NHL games this season, to be back as soon as the Canadiens put someone on waivers or make a trade.
The only other player on the team who doesn’t require waivers is Jakub Jerabek and the team only has seven defencemen so he has to stay in case something happens at practice.
The Canadiens have Logan Shaw, Byron Froese, Nicolas Deslauriers, Jacob de la Rose, Daniel Carr who are likely candidates to be waived or moved to create room.
