Montreal Canadiens officially set roster and taxi squad

The Montreal Canadiens have set their roster for the start of the 2020-21 season, sending 15 players to Laval Rocket training camp, and adding five players to their taxi squad.

The NHL roster will have 21 players including Jake Evans, and Victor Mete. The names on the roster are not really a surprise given that the hierarchy at training camp was clear from the start.

The taxi squad is also not much of a surprise, and it will have five players. Corey Perry and Michael Frolik remain with the team after clearing waivers. They will be joined by Charlie Lindgren, Cale Fleury, and Ryan Poehling.

The players sent down were Jake Lucchini, Kevin Lynch, Joel Teasdale, Lukas Vejdemo, Otto Leskinen, Vasili Demchenko, Michael McNiven, and Cayden Primeau.

Also sent to the AHL were seven players who cleared waivers on Monday: Brandon Baddock, Alex Belzile, Joseph Blandisi, Laurent Dauphin, Jordan Weal, Gustav Olofsson, and Xavier Ouellet.

They will join a group of players that include Cam Hillis, Josh Brook, Jesse Ylönen, Yannick Veilleux, Raphaël Harvey-Pinard, among others. 2020 first-round pick Kaiden Guhle is also expected to be at Laval Rocket training camp and will likely remain in the AHL until the Western Hockey League starts their season.

The Laval Rocket will play their games at the Bell Centre this season in an effort to reduce risk of contamination of COVID-19. Their regular season is set to get underway on February 5.
