The Canadiens placed Victor Mete on waivers on Sunday, and also acquired Jon Merrill. Merrill will have to quarantine for a week, and Ouellet will represent an extra defenceman for the team should Mete be claimed at noon.
If Mete is claimed, it would leave the Canadiens with six defenceman on the roster, necessitating a recall to the taxi squad. Obviously there is a chance for another move to be made by Marc Bergevin as well.
Ouellet has played three NHL games this season, with no points. In 13 AHL games this year, he has two goals and one assist. He is the captain of the Rocket.
The Rocket have a day off on Monday, and do not play until Thursday. The Canadiens have an optional pre-game skate on Monday prior to their game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The move with Ouellet was actually done on Sunday according to Cap Friendly and AHL Transactions.
