Montreal Canadiens recall Nikita Scherbak from Laval

The Montreal Canadiens have recalled Nikita Scherbak from the Laval Rocket today after being shut out once again last night against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Scherbak returns for a second stint with the Canadiens this season, his first earlier in the year ended with a serious knee injury that kept him out for six weeks.

Since recovering from that injury Scherbak has only been kept off the scoresheet twice in that time, while also performing at above a point-per-game pace. His playmaking ability has been on full display, especially on the power play, where Scherbak takes full advantage of the open space around him to find open passing lanes for teammates.

His recall makes him an intriguing option for the Canadiens top six, where pairing him with former linemate Charles Hudon could create some instant chemistry for Claude Julien.

Scherbak has seven goals and 23 assists in 24 games this season in the AHL. He had no points in two NHL games.
