The Montreal Canadiens have recalled forward Mitchell Stephens from the Laval Rocket, the team announced on Friday.

This is likely because of the injury suffered by Alex Newhook on Thursday. There is still no word on the severity of the injury, but it is safe to assume he will be out for at least the next game on Saturday.

Montreal had one extra forward on the roster, but with the Laval Rocket in Abbotsford, BC, it is worth being safe rather than sorry.

This is Stephens’ first NHL recall since joining the Canadiens organization last season. The 26-year-old had three goals and nine assists in 16 games this season with the Rocket. Over his NHL career, he has played 72 NHL games with three goals and 10 assists.

The Rocket do have some good news, Gabriel Bourque, Philippe Maillet, and Emil Heineman are all expected to return to the lineup on Friday night.
