Montreal Canadiens recall Michael Chaput from Laval

The Montreal Canadiens have recalled veteran forward Michael Chaput from the Laval Rocket.

Chaput was the final cut at training camp along with Kenny Agostino, playing very well for the Canadiens in the pre-season.

With Nikita Scherbak joining Paul Byron and Joel Armia on the injured reserve, the Canadiens only had 12 healthy forwards for their upcoming road trip. At the same time the team’s fourth line has struggled, so Chaput adds a new element to the rotation to perhaps find a solution to the problem.

So far this season with the Laval Rocket, Chaput has put up 10 points in 18 games, struggling with consistency at times. Although heavily used in all situations, Chaput was surpassed as top centre on the team by emerging rookie Jake Evans.

Chaput played nine games with the Vancouver Canucks last season, not putting up any points.

The recall comes one day after Canadiens coach Claude Julien played his fourth line one shift in the third period.
