Montreal Canadiens Prospect Roundup 6

Sweden

Name League Team Timeline Games Goals Assists Points
Sebastian Collberg Elitserien Frölunda Last Week 2 0 0 0
Total 30 5 3 8
World Juniors Sweden Last Week 0 0 0 0
Total 6 4 2 6
Allsvenskan Örebro HK
Last Week 0 0 0 0
Total 15 6 2 8

Collberg has seemingly gone cold in the Elitserien, now seven games without a point. Which raises the question of whether he might get sent back to the Allsvenskan? If it’s good enough for Filip Forsberg, it’s good enough for him.

Magnus Nygren Elitserien Färjestads Last Week 2 1 1 2
Total 46 12 15 27

Nygren continues to hit the scoresheet alarmingly often for a defenseman. There were talks this week that he may have signed a new contract with Färjestads for the next year, which makes sense considering the lack of room for defensemen in Hamilton, but I think at his age he could likely be on the top pairing there, maybe even force the Canadiens into a tough decision.

Name League Team Timeline Games Goals Assists Points
Erik Nystrom Super Elit U20 Modo U20 Last Week 0 0 0 0
Total 22 8 16 24
Allsvenskan Karlskrona HK Last Week 2 0 2 2
Total 19 3 5 8

Nystrom in 4 games back from being sick for 3 weeks, Nystrom has 3 points for Karlskrona HK. It looks like he’s adjusting to the speed of the Allsvenskan, which is great news for the longshot pick. The amount of time I spend looking at Erik Nystrom really illustrates how well Trevor Timmins did in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

Daniel Pribyl Czech Extraliga Sparta Praha Last Week 2 1 0 1
Total 38 11 10 21

Pribyl has 10 points in his last 8 games after 11 points in his first 30. Is he breaking out as a legitimate prospect? One thing is for sure, he’s never had a streak like this at the professional level, so it’s really nice to see. He’s scoring at a better pace right now than he was in the Czech second league last year. Something to be excited about in an enigmatic prospect?

Brady Vail OHL Windsor Spitfires Last Week 4 0 2 2

Vail is back at forward now but struggling overall. The gap between his points and games played keeps widening, and he was a -6 in his last three games of the week. He’s now a -20 on the season.

Olivier Archambault QMJHL Drumm. Volitgeurs
Last Week 4 2 3 5
Total 55 25 30 55

Archambault has made the climb back up to a point per game pace after quite the cold streak midseason. He has 12 points in his previous 8 games, and has set new career highs for goals, and points in the QMJHL. If he finishes off the year playing this well, he could make the Bulldogs next year. They could use a talent infusion.

Hey everyone, Hudon is back. 5 points in 2 games looks solid enough, but Hudon now has 9 in his last 3 games. The cold streak that we saw end last week is a thing of the past now.

Darren Dietz WHL Saskatoon Blades Last Week 4 3 4 7
Total 61 19 27 46

Wow! The Saskatoon Blades are red hot right now as they seem to have finally realized that they’re hosting the memorial cup, and Dietz seems to be leading the charge. Dietz has 20 points in his last 13 games, including 8 goals. He’s topped his career highs in goals and points already, and has a few more weeks to notch 3 more assists and have a career high there as well. Will the 19 year old be a Bulldog next year? At one point this year, Dietz was below -20, now he’s a +1. I don’t like +/- as a stat overall, but I think that says something.

Thrower is playing better than he was early in the season, but I still think is a bit of a disappointment.

Tim Bozon WHL Kamloops Blazers Last Week 3 0 2 2
Total 59 32 45 77

A bit of a cold streak for Bozon sees him without a goal for 3 straight games, and with just one goal in his last 8. Over that time he also has 5 assists, but it’s not the dominance we’re used to.

Danny Kristo NCAA North Dakota Last Week 1 1 1 2
Total 29 19 22 41

Kristo has points in 14 of his last 16 games, 14 goals and 27 points over that time. It would be tough to ask for more from the college senior, who should be in the conversation for the Hobey Baker award this year. I’m still of the opinion that if a spot is there for him, Kristo could step from the NCAA’s frozen four straight onto the Bell Centre ice this season. The tools he has are mightily impressive and should translate well to the NHL game.

Mark MacMillan NCAA North Dakota Last Week 1 0 0 0

MacMillan is starting to really have trouble scoring after an excellent start. He has just 1 goal in his last 10 games after putting up 17 points in his first 21. Perhaps he has a lingering injury?
