Montreal Canadiens place Gustav Lindström on waivers

The Montreal Canadiens have placed defenceman Gustav Lindström on waivers, the team announced on Tuesday.

Lindström has been pushed down the depth chart by the emergence of Jayden Struble, and with the return of Jordan Harris, he couldn’t even find a way into the lineup when the team played seven defenders. He has not played a game in a month, dating back to December 9 against the Buffalo Sabres.

He has played 14 NHL games this season, scoring three goals and adding one assist. If he clears waivers, he will be assigned to the Laval Rocket. He has played four AHL games for the Rocket this season, and has no points.

This could indicate that Rafaël Harvey-Pinard may be close to a return as they would need a roster spot to activate him. Currently the team has Emil Heineman on emergency recall, but this move would indicate they would like to keep him in the NHL for the time being.

We will know whether he clears or his claimed at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon.
