Despite a number of misplays from the defence last night in Buffalo, Cayden Primeau was sharp to limit the Sabres to just two third-period goals, and won the duel with Devon Levi in the shootout to grab a win. The Canadiens have since made the short trip home to take on the Nashville Predators a night later.
There is a fresh replacement for one of the defencemen who played in a game in which the team allowed 48 shots. David Savard is coming in for the first time in seven weeks after recovering from a hand injury. The player coming out is yet to be announced, but it’s likely to be one of Justin Barron and Gustav Lindström who watches this game from the press box.
Jake Allen gets the start in goal, and a win is critical to both his confidence and the team’s chances of making a trade to resolve the three-goalie tandem that has been in place all season long. Primeau’s effort last night showed that he still has the quality to be an NHL player, making Allen’s value to the team greatest as a trade chip.
