The month of December was disastrous for the Canadiens, who only managed to win three times. Now, it’s a new year, and the Canadiens won the Winter Classic easily with Brendan Gallagher returning to lead the way. Their last week was pretty good in general, as they took two out of three and may have finally gotten out of the funk they were in.

Remember that the pace is based on a full year of hockey (82 games)
An encouraging sign is that Mike Condon appears to have picked up his game. That, combined with a little more run support, would certainly help the Canadiens avoid another losing streak. Gallagher being back in the lineup provides a major scoring boost, and with Max Pacioretty heating up, things are finally starting to brighten up in Montreal.
Daniel Carr didn’t score last week, and his shooting percentage has finally regressed to a sustainable rate, but he had plenty of scoring chances. He has the same amount of goals and points as Sven Andrighetto, but has generated 9 more shots, which represents a 52% better shot production.
Mark Barberio saw action for the first time this week, and managed an average of a shot per game and collected his first point too. P.K. Subban, and pretty much all of the Canadiens defensemen have brutal shooting percentages. It’s a little disappointing, but eventually they’re bound to start getting some better luck.
It may be that the power play is to blame for the lack of goal production by the defense. It is clearly not working properly, and if Michel Therrien can re-tool it a little that could help them reverse their fortunes.
There is nothing like a win against Boston to start a winning streak. We’ll soon find out if the Habs are back for real, or if their scoring woes remain.
