European Prospect Review: Henrikson scores his first of the season

Joonas Nättinen, JYP, Liiga

Nättinen took a blow from an opposing players skate in the game against Ässet. Before the incident, Nättinen had scored the winning penalty for JYP against the Pelicans and scored the 2-2 goal in the game versus Ässet. He obviously left the game, a game that JYP lost 5-4 in the end, nor did he participate in Tuesday’s game against Lukko.

A special thanks to Alex for providing the gif for us. There is more from Joonas Nättinen in the last episode of PuckDrop Europe.

Lukas Vejdemo, Djurgården, SHL

Vejdemo returned after a a brief time out of the line up thanks to an undisclosed illness. He was -1 against Luleå, a game that finished with three goals in the last 68 seconds. Djurgården lost the game on penalties. In Saturday’s game against Örebro, Vejdmeo played but didn’t appear on the score sheet. Djurgården plays Magnus Nygren’s Färjestad today (Wednesday).

Arvid Henrikson, AIK U20, Super Elite

Henrikson scored his first goal against Mora, Alex Nunn (who was once more watching the game) described it as a smart play; “Henrikson waited until bodies were in the shooting lane and then got off a quick wrister from the point that went straight into the net.” In the end Henrikson’s AIK lost the game 4-2. With two other losses against Mora and Leksand this week they are still anchored to the bottom of the Super Elite table at the moment.

I reached Henrikson on the phone in order to congratulate him on the goal. “Thank you”, he says, “while it’s always good to score a goal but that’s not where my focus is at the moment. I am in this game to play good hockey, for me that is great defence combined with a fast and accurate first pass out of the zone”.

In regards to AIK’s start of the season, Henrikson acknowledges that “It is tough for all of us. We have to practice harder in order to turn this around”. Despite the tough start Henrikson is confident “I have no doubt that we will turn it around.”

When asked about his personal play and adjusting to a more competitive league (from the U18 to the U20) the answer comes quickly “Of course it goes faster and the opposing players are a bit bigger and heavier, but I feel that I am fulfilling my role, and that I am happy with my play so far. There is, however, always room to improve.”

Magnus Nygren, Färjestad, SHL

In a game between two struggling giants Skellefteå and Färjestad, Nygren let lose and scored two points, a goal and an assist. In Saturday’s game against Luleå, in what must be described as a road trip for a Swedish team, Nygren notched up another assist. Nygren now sits fifth among defence men in scoring with seven points (2+5) in eight games, this on a struggling Färjestad team. Nygren goes up against Lukas Vejdemo’s Djurgården shortly after this article has been published.
