It’s not exactly inspiring news, but the Montreal Canadiens have announced that they’ve called up Michael Blunden and Patrick Holland from their AHL affiliate, the Hamilton Bulldogs.

Holland will likely be used to replace Danny Briere, who’s out indefinitely with a concussion, while Blunden will be used on the fourth line, with Travis Moen likely moving up to replace the Brandon Prust, who’s injury is still unspecified by likely his previously injured shoulder..
Blunden is the epitome of a replacement level forward, who is a solid AHL player but a mess in the NHL. That the Canadiens have kept going back to him for three seasons now shows a severe distrust of their prospects, and a falling of Gabriel Dumont’s stock.
Patrick Holland is more of a question mark, as he draws rave reviews from some but seems to be largely a wallflower in every game I’ve watched. Hopefully he can show more at the NHL level than he shows in the AHL.
