Monday Habs Links: Lars Eller Primed For A Return To Centre

Montreal Canadiens Links

  • Fresh off a 3-1 victory over the New York Islanders on Saturday night, the Habs skated on Sunday afternoon in preparation for a big game against the Tampa Bay Lightning this evening. Playing some of his best hockey of the season, Lars Eller found himself back at centre during the practice. He could centre a line with Devante Smith-Pelly and Jacob de la Rose tonight. [TVA]
  • Speaking of Eller, the 25-year-old Dane was highly coveted by Columbus Blue Jackets general manager Jarmo Kekalainen at this year’s trade deadline. [TVA]
  • Recently acquired centre Torrey Mitchell was injured in Saturday night’s game and he will not play against the Lightning this evening. Brian Flynn is expected to take his spot in the lineup. [RDS]
  • Although they were enemies on the ice over the weekend, P.K. Subban and John Tavares remain good friends off of it. Check out this awesome throwback video of the odd couple during the 2009 World Juniors. [TSN]
  • And just in case you couldn’t get enough, here’s Subban hitting Tavares in the face with a pie following their gold medal victory on home ice. [TSN]
  • It’s no secret Carey Price has been making headline after headline due to his incredible play all season long, but he’s even receiving exposure for things that he isn’t doing between the pipes. Check out the young fans perspective of Saturday night’s famous selfie. [EOTP]

Around the League and Elsewhere

  • Pittsburgh Penguins forward Steve Downie could be in some trouble. The NHL’s league leader in penalty minutes was ejected from yesterday’s 5-1 loss to the Detroit Red Wings after pushing a referee down to the ice. [Sportsnet]
  • Playing on one of the worst teams in the league, Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Justin Faulk often falls under the radar. That should change soon enough as the 22-year-old is well on track to becoming an elite player. [SB Nation]
  • Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin is a total beast on the ice, but he’s a pretty nice guy off of it. The NHL’s leading goal scorer surprised a couple that lost their home and possessions in a fire, presenting them with a signed jersey. [NHL]
  • Speaking of the Capitals, it was a rather embarrassing Sunday for defenseman Mike Green. Check out this hilarious sequence as he whiffs on a pass to the point, falls and takes a penalty all at the same time. [SB Nation]
  • It’s no secret video replay will be a hot topic at the upcoming GM meetings. In fact, there’s a chance we could be seeing goal post camera’s as early as this year’s playoffs. [Sportsnet]
  • Lastly, the Ottawa Senators are red hot thanks to the stellar play of Andrew “The Hamburglar” Hammond. After a shootout victory over the Philadelphia Flyers last night, Hammond picked up a hamburger that was thrown on to the ice. He’s now a ridiculous 10-0-1 with a .955 save percentage on the season, keeping the Senators alive in the playoff race. [Puck Daddy]
