Player of the Week: Martin Réway
Martin Réway does not seem to be shrinking from the spotlight as he participates in the Extraliga playoffs for the first time with Sparta Praha. He marked an assist in his first game, a 3-0 win over HK Hradec Kralove. He scored a goal and assist in his next game, a 5-3 win over Hradec Pralove.
He also got an assist in his final game of the week, a 4-3 win over Hradec Pralove as his team took a commanding 3-0 series lead in their Quarter-Final series. Réway is currently second on his team in playoff scoring and is first among players under the age of 24 in the league in category.

These leagues can be considered the primary conduit towards professional hockey in North America.

Daniel Audette: Audette made a run of playmaking in a short schedule this past week with Sherbrooke Phoenix. He marked an assist in his first game, a 3-2 win over the Victoriaville Tigres. He collected two assists in his second game, a 5-1 win over the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies. Audette currently leads his team in scoring with 68 points in 58 games.
Jeremy Grégoire: The captain of the Baie-Comeau Drakkar had a short, but solid week in the goal-scoring department. He started the week scoring two goals, the first a shorthanded marker that would become the game-winner along with an empty-net insurance goal in a 4-2 win over Rimouski Oceanic. He picked up a goal in his next game, a 4-3 defeat in a rematch versus Rimouski. In the 30 games he has played since missing the first half of the season, Gregoire has scored 19 goals and leads his team in points per game with a 1.3 average.
Michael McCarron: It was a short week for McCarron as he missed one of his scheduled games with the Oshawa Generals due to a short illness. He marked an assist in his first game, a 6-1 win over the Mississauga Steelheads. He added an assist in the next game, a 9-1 win over the Kingston Frontenacs. McCarron hasn’t scored any goals in his last 11 games.
Tim Bozon: Bozon is working on passing old benchmarks as the WHL season starts to come to a close. He picked up an empty-net goal in his first game, a 4-1 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes. He went without a point in the next game, a 7-1 win over the Medicine Hat Tigers. He ended the week scoring a goal in a 4-2 win over the Red Deer Rebels. He has scored 33 goals in 54 games this season and has scored 18 of those goals in his last 23 games.
Brett Lernout: It was a solid offensive week for the Swift Current Broncos defenceman. He went without a point in his first game, a 4-1 loss to the Regina Pats. He picked up an assist in the next game, a 2-1 shootout win over the Prince Albert Raiders. He scored a goal and assist in his final game, a rematch versus Prince Albert that saw Swift Current take a 7-3 win. Lernout leads his team in defensive scoring with 41 points in 69 games.
Nikita Scherbak: It was a rather soft offensive week for the Everett Silvertips’ scoring leader. He went scoreless in his first two games, a 6-1 loss to the Portland Winterhawks and a 3-2 shootout loss to the Seattle Thunderbirds. He marked an assist in his final game, a 3-1 win in a rematch versus Seattle. The assist marked his 79th point of the season, passing his previous career high of 78 points in the 2013-14 season.
Nikolas Koberstein: There has been a spark of offence as Koberstein reaches the tail end of his first USHL season. He picked up an assist in his first game, a 6-2 loss to Team USA Juniors. He went without a point in his second game, a 4-3 win over the Muskegon Lumberjacks. Koberstein has five points in his last seven games, but still holds only three goals in 53 games this season.
Josiah Didier: Didier went scoreless this past week as his team, the University of Denver swept the University of Minnesota Duluth in 4-3 and 4-0 wins to advance through the first round of their Conference playoffs. Didier has just two goals in 36 games this season and nine points overall.
Jake Evans: Evans continues to struggle to find the scoresheet as he goes through the NCAA playoffs with the University of Notre Dame. He went scoreless in his first two games, a 5-0 loss to the University of Massachusetts-Lowell and a 4-2 win over UML in the next game. He was scoreless in what became his final game of the season as Notre Dame fell 6-4 to UML to lose their Quarter-Final series and be eliminated from the playoffs. Evans finishes the year with 17 points in 41 games, and a rather disappointing five points in his last 22 games and was 10th overall in team scoring for Notre Dame.
Mark MacMillan: MacMillan has been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to an undisclosed lower-body injury that required surgery. He finished the season leading his team in goals with 16 and was named First All-Conference for the National Collegiate Hockey Conference.
Hayden Hawkey: Hawkey has unfortunately been ruled out for the remainder of the 2014-15 season due to suffering tears in his Anterior Cruciate Ligament and Medial Collateral Ligament on November 29.
Zach Fucale: In a somewhat rare turn for his troubling season, Fucale had a solid week in nets for the Quebec Remparts. He allowed 2 goals on 39 shots in his first game, a 2-1 loss to the Shawinigan Cataractes. He stopped 22 of 24 shots in his next start, a 3-2 win over the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies. Fucale posted a .937 save percentage over the two starts. Fucale’s season save percentage unfortunately still stands at a disappointing .887, which puts him at 14th overall in the QMJHL.
The European report:
The SHL is the top professional men’s league in Sweden and is at a comparable level to the AHL. Strong play here can often give indications that the player is moving towards being capable of playing in the NHL.
The Extraliga is the top professional men’s league in the Czech Republic. While it is not at the level of the SHL, it is still a competitive pro league where solid production would give credence to a player’s NHL potential.

Artturi Lehkonen: Lehkonen’s offensive issues seem to have followed him into the SHL playoffs with Frolunda HC. He scored no points in either of his games this past week, a 3-2 win over Lulea HF and a 2-1 loss to Lulea. Frolunda is tied with Lulea 1-1 in their Quarter-Final series.
Joonas Nättinen: Nattinen did not play this past week due to a break in the schedule before MODO Hockey must play in the relegation series to avoid being reassigned to the secondary Allsvenskan league.
