On Friday afternoon, the Montreal Canadiens announced the recall of forward Michael McCarron from the American Hockey League’s St. John’s IceCaps.

This is McCarron’s third recall of the season and was expected since he was sent down just before the bye week in order to save on cap space.
He played in two games with the IceCaps during the Canadiens bye week, earning no points but registering five shots. He did have a short-handed goal overturned.

It will be interesting to see how McCarron fits into the lineup of new Canadiens head coach Claude Julien. His utilization can range from fourth-line centre to bottom-six winger, to healthy scratch entirely. The big-body presence is obviously something that Julien will want to integrate into his game plan.
In 18 games for the Canadiens this season, McCarron has scored one goal and added four assists playing primarily in a fourth-line capacity.
In 32 games with the IceCaps, he has scored seven goals and added 12 assists, playing in a top-six role for the farm team.
