The word is finally out on the nature of Michael McCarron injury. He injured his shoulder during the first team practice of the new year and will be out for the rest of the season, the Canadiens announced today.

McCarron underwent surgery on Wednesday.
Joel Bouchard called the injury at the time an unfortunate accident. Prior to the injury McCarron played some of the best hockey of his professional career this past December for the Laval Rocket, accumulating 13 points in 11 games, and earning a Player of the Month nod from Eyes on the Prize.

Last season was a difficult one for the towering forward, who struggled to make his place even in the AHL, resorting frequently to fighting in order to leave his mark. That quickly dropped him down the line-up, practically being a non-factor for the Rocket towards the end of the year.
But this season there was a renewed urgency in his game. He began using his frame to drive to the net, and get in the right positions to forecheck and to score. This is a McCarron that we have not seen since the start of his pro career three seasons ago in St. John’s. He was on the right track to perhaps be given one final opportunity for a recall to the Montreal Canadiens. Instead his future now hangs in doubt with his contract expiring at the end of the season.
The team took their time to evaluate the injury, and it was reported that they were seeking a second opinion.
