He seems to be focused on playing in the NHL, as he stated in a recent interview with Slovak newspaper Sport:

“I am still taking meds, but they don’t affect my training. Roman Švantner and his team know my illness and are adjusting my training regimen accordingly. If everything goes according to plan I should be able to fight for a spot on the Montreal roster come September. I have sacrificed a lot for hockey and I hope I can prove to all people that I belong in the NHL this year.”

The interesting thing here is that he’s still taking medication for the heart condition that forced him off the ice for the entirety of the 2016-17 season, but also that they don’t have any ill effects on his ability to play hockey, or seem to violate any banned substance rules.

Working with a respected conditioning coach, as Roman Švantner (Ph.D) is, to build up his physique after the illness in order to return to shape and be able to challenge for a spot on the Canadiens’ roster seems to have given Réway a good start, and it will be interesting to follow his progress.

Challenging for a spot in the NHL is something that wasn’t even on the horizon a few months ago. Now it seems to be closer than ever.
