Martin Reway practising with Slovak champions

Martin Reway has had a long battle over the past year with a very serious medical issue that could have cost him his career. He last played hockey at the 2016 Canadiens development camp, so it’s been over a year since he saw any game action.

The good news is that not only is Reway back to skating, but he is actively training on the ice with the Slovak Extraliga champion HC Banska Bystrica who have begun their training camp already.

This was first reported by EOTP’s Patrik Bexell on Thursday:

In case anyone was worried about a defection, the fact that Reway is wearing his Montreal Canadiens gear in probably a good indication of his intentions. It’s obviously been a long and frustrating road for Reway, who can hopefully go back to trying to fulfil the potential that he exhibited.

The goal is obviously to make a return during the Montreal Canadiens training camp, and perhaps even sooner, for the Rookie Tournament which starts on September 8th.

Should he be fit and able to compete, one would have to assume an assignment to the Laval Rocket for the season to re-acclimatize himself to North American hockey after his Junior hockey was played in the QMJHL.
