Training in Kladno with fellow Habs player Tomas Plekanec and ageless wonder Jaromir Jagr, newly signed winger Jiri Sekac took a few minutes out of his day to speak to RDS.
Here are some quotes from the interview:
“It was the first time I was on the ice with Plekanec, I had seen him play so I knew what to expect.”
When asked if he could find himself on a line with the aforementioned defensive stalwart, Sekac said he hoped that would be the case.
On the difference between the NHL and the KHL: “Practice rinks are different. You have soccer fields, gyms, everything is there. You don’t have to leave the rink all day.”
And lastly, the most important point was that he’s not planning on bolting if the training camp doesn’t go well.
“If that happens, and I would be sent down to the farm team, I won’t just give up and go back to Europe. That’s not the reason why I came to the NHL.”
Essentially he said all the right things, and placated some of the fear that he would return to Europe instead of heading to the dreaded Bulldogs. This is a refreshing change considering a few of our European prospects flat out refuse to play for Sylvain Lefebvre in Hamilton, preferring to remain in Europe with a more competitive team.
