Presumably replacing the injured Tanner Pearson, Montreal Canadiens winger Jiri Sekac has been selected to the 2015 NHL All-Star game to take part in the festivities as a rookie, specifically the skills competition.
Sekac will likely take part in some skating events, considering his excellent foot speed, one of the keys to his success this season. Sekac has seven goals and eight assists this season in 34 games, and has combined with Lars Eller to create an excellent third line that has tipped the scales in favour of the Habs on many nights.
The 22-year-old Czech is shooting at a whopping 20.6% so far this season, evidence of both a potent shot, and some good fortune so far.
No one really knew what to expect from the former KHLer when he came over, but the pace he plays with has impressed virtually everyone who has watched him this season, and allowed the Canadiens to consistently ice three skilled lines, providing Eller with a consistent linemate for the first time in several years.
In fact, Sekac’s play has endeared himself so well to the fanbase, that he finished 3rd behind Alex Galchenyuk and Carey Price in the fan voted approval ratings midway through the season.
Sekac’s 15 points tie him for eighth in rookie scoring so far this season, only one point behind the injured Pearson.
