The Montreal Canadiens announced that Jacob de la Rose suffered a “cardiac episode” and will not travel to Toronto for the team’s season opener.
MEDICAL UPDATE – Jacob de la Rose will not make the trip with the team today (cardiac episode). He was not cleared to travel by the team doctors, and will remain in Montreal for ongoing evaluation.

The forward missed practice on Monday with what the team called a therapy day at the time. The severity of the injury is not said to be serious but anything that includes “cardiac episode” needs to be taken seriously and with extreme caution.
To be clear, Canadiens say De la Rose’s condition is not serious, this is more precautionary in nature. The episode happened after the final preseason game in Ottawa and team medical staff didn’t want to take any chances. He will be placed on IR.

De la Rose will be placed on injured reserve. What this means for the team in the immediate future is that they do not need a corresponding roster move if they decide that Andrew Shaw is ready to play on Wednesday night.
Shaw is currently a game-time decision for Wednesday’s game and has not played a game in the pre-season.
De la Rose last played on Saturday night in Ottawa in the Canadiens’ pre-season finale and was battling for a spot on the team’s fourth line.
