It’s Official: Bulldogs to host Marlies at Yvor Wynne

The Hamilon Bulldogs (AHL) made a leaked story by local papers official Tuesday, by announcing that the team will host the Toronto Marlies in an outdoor game at Hamilton’s Yvor Wynne Stadium.

The game is set to be played on January 21, 2012. Season ticket holders and flex ticket holders get first dibs on seats. General public sales for this game go on sale October 11.

In a press announcement on Tuesday, Bulldogs officials expect to break the AHL’s single game attendance record of 21,508, and the game itself wraps up a week’s worth of planned activities that will include an AHL/NHL Alumni game.

Expect the Bulldogs to sport a hybrid jersey acknowledging the Hamilton Tiger Cats (CFL), the sixty year plus tenants of the 83-year-old stadium. Yes fans, the Habs minor league affiliate wearing black and gold….

Of course the Tiger jersey also takes us back to Hamilton’s only NHL franchise, the Hamilton Tigers (1920-25).

The purchase of the Quebec Bulldogs brought the NHL to Canada’s Steel City. After four season’s of missing the playoffs, the Tigers finally began to show promise in their final season, taking first place in the league. The players however chose to strike, demanding more pay for the playoffs, and management suspended the team. The team and it’s players were then sold off to become the expansion New York Americans

Ten players in NHL history wore both the Tigers and Canadiens jersey in their careers, the most notable being member of the Hall of Fame Joe Malone. The others were Amos Arbour, Edmond Bouchard, Bert Corbeau, Jack Coughlin, Bill Coutu, Charlie Langlois, Joe Matte, Harry Mummery and Cully Wilson.
