IceCaps Player of the Week: Gabriel Dumont
It’s been no secret that for the past few weeks the IceCaps have been hurting for production outside their top line. With a large amount of call ups essentially eliminating most of the IceCaps top six, that pressure fell on Gabriel Dumont.
Originally lined up with Jacob de la Rose and Nikita Scherbak to start the season, Dumont handled a lot of tough minutes for St. John’s, however with his linemates injured he’s been bouncing around various lines.
In a three game road trip through Central New York, the IceCaps captain found his game that lead to a career season last year. Against the Albany Devils he notched his 5th goal of the year and had a slew of prime scoring chances. Dumont also grabbed an assist in a 4-1 loss to the Binghamton Senators, when he set up Mark MacMilan for his 2nd goal of the year.

Charles Hudon: Like a double rainbow or a unicorn, there was a rare sighting this week, as Charles Hudon was held off the score sheet in all three games. With the IceCaps top six all but eliminated, teams are zeroed in on the line of Holloway-McCarron-Hudon, and have made it difficult for them to produce any meaningful offense.
Michael McCarron: After a dominant series the weekend before McCarron found himself in the same spot as his linemate. Unable to produce any sort of offense and in the case of McCarron initiating a poorly timed fight in a close game against Binghamton.
Daniel Carr: It was quite the weekend for Daniel Carr, who achieved a rare feat. He scored his first NHL goal during his first shift and on his first shot.
Sven Andrighetto: The Swiss forward looks like he’s going to be a mainstay in the Canadiens line up, and with three goals in seven games it’s easy to see why. He notched his third goal of the year against the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night.
Christian Thomas: While he’s still looking for a goal at the NHL level this season, Thomas has been outstanding on the Habs’ 4th line. Thomas is one of the few AHL call ups who stands to gain the most with Devante Smith-Pelly on IR and Alex Semin on waivers
Mark Barberio: The good news is that it appears Barberio has shaken off a lingering injury he suffered against Rochester, when he blocked a shot. He only managed a single assist in two games played, but it was a big one as it was on Bud Holloway’s overtime winner against Utica.
Mac Bennett: It appears that Bennett is the current odd man out for the IceCaps, as he played only one game this week and failed to record even a shot on net.
Bud Holloway: The veteran forward continues his strong season in the AHL, he notched the OT winner against the Utica Comets on Friday night. He, along with Hudon and McCarron, will continue to be leaned on heavily while players like Andrighetto and Carr see NHL time.
Jacob de la Rose: The young Swede is still on the shelf with an injury.
Joel Hanley: The relatively unknown off season signing has had a strong showing for the IceCaps recently. He recorded his fourth assist of the year on a Gabriel Dumont goal against Albany.
Brett Lernout: It was another quiet week point wise for the rookie blueliner, he managed just a single shot on net. This is not indicative of his overall play, which has been very good, the IceCaps as a whole struggled with shot production overall this past week.
Connor Crisp: The young forward is currently shelved with an injury.
Darren Dietz: The young defenseman sat out all three games with an undisclosed injury.
Morgan Ellis: After his best series of games the previous week, Ellis had one of his worst which included no points and several costly turnovers in back to back games against Utica and Binghamton.
Nikita Scherbak: The rookie forward is still on the injured list and isn’t travelling with the team currently.
Jeremy Grégoire: While not as heralded as fellow rookies McCarron and Scherbak, Gregoire has earned the trust of Sylvain Lefebvre and made his way into the top six. He didn’t record any points, but recorded another fight, this time against Max McCormick of Binghamton.
Markus Eisenschmid: The rookie German is on the injured list along with Scherbak and De la Rose.
Tim Bozon: It didn’t take long for Bozon to record his first professional point this season, he assisted on Angelo Miceli’s second goal of the year against Utica. With multiple injuries the time is now for Bozon to stake his claim as a top AHL scoring threat.
Dustin Tokarski: Sent down to the AHL on a conditioning stint of sorts Tokarski started a pair of games for the IceCaps. Despite not recording a win he recorded a solid .925 SV% and a 2.45 GAA. He was recalled by the Canadiens on Monday.
Zachary Fucale: As a reward for his strong play as of late in the AHL, Fucale earned an NHL call up to serve as Mike Condon’s back up for a few games. With Tokarski called back up Fucale will head back to St. John’s and continue in his role as the IceCaps starting goalie.

It was a tough week for the Icecaps, as they managed only three of a possible six points. And they were lucky to have earned those points, the team struggled to produce shots and goals in their road trip through central New York.
