Habsent Minded 4.03: The 2021 NHL Draft Edition

Matt Drake joins Patrik Bexell to talk about the Montreal Canadiens’ selections at the 2021 NHL draft on the latest episode of Habsent Minded.

There is discussion about the team’s first pick, Logan Mailloux. There is talk about him as a hockey player, but note that at around the 34 minute mark they start to discuss the legal situation in Sweden, so you can choose to listen to that part or not.

They also talk about Riley Kidney, Oliver Kapanen, two second-round picks with clear upsides, one on each side of the Atlantic.

The two Russians Dimitri Kostenko and Daniil Sobolev, who have chosen different paths to the NHL. Kostenko having signed with the KHL’s Spartak Moscow, the third team after CSKA and Dynamo in Moscow, and Sobolev who choose the Windsor Spitfires of the OHL for another development route.

Also, hear Matt Drake’s take on Quebec products William Trudeau, Joshua Roy and Xavier Simoneau. Joe Vrbetic is another goalie draftee. With the longer development they need it is always uncertain to draft goalies so the more you have, the better chance of finding a good one.
