2023 NHL Draft: Montreal Canadiens select Filip Eriksson with pick 165

Centre Filip Erksson is the Montreal Canadiens’ pick at 165th overall in the 2023 NHL Draft.

Eriksson is an older first-year-eligible player, turning 18 last November. He played just 13 games in the regular season in his draft year, 11 with the Växjö Lakers’ U20 squad and two with the main SHL team, but then got into six post-season games with the top club, registering no points.

He has shown good scoring ability in his teenage years before this shortened campaign, often contributing above a point-per-game mark with great goal differential numbers. Montreal is betting on that production carrying over to a more full-time stay in the professional ranks.
