With our annual Top 25 Under 25 project counting down the top young players in the Montreal Canadiens organization, we’re getting an in-depth look at the prospect pool that has filled over the past seven years. We’re really getting into the cream of the crop now, looking at the top 10 players in the organization.
Helping the staff and the community to put our lists together each year are our prospect writers, who keep us updated on the progress the young players are making as they work through their development. Patrik Bexell gives us great analysis on and exclusive interviews with the main prospects overseas in our weekly European Prospect Report. The North American players are covered in a similar weekly series called Catching The Torch.

Starting with the 2017-18 season, Catching The Torch was written by David St-Louis, who provided us with deep analysis on even the most minute details of a prospect’s game, giving us a full picture of what a player did well, and what he still had to improve upon. All the while he gave us great analysis on the NHL club and each year’s NHL draft class in some of the best content the site has seen.
After four years, David has made the decision to move on to a full-time role with Elite Prospects after contributing there part-time for a couple of years. He still hopes to write the occasional article about the NHL club, but he will no longer be putting together the weekly North American prospect reports.
We are now looking for a person to take over the Catching The Torch project. Applicants should be interested in the development of the Canadiens’ prospects, putting together weekly reports on how they’re faring during the season, and ideally keeping an eye on some of the top draft-eligible players to help out with our NHL draft coverage when the season reaches its conclusion. You’re not expected to watch every game from every player, but rather choose one or two to highlight each week, with a stats update on all the prospects.
The person selected will be paid a stipend of USD $150 per month, and a CHL All-Access Pass that allows you to watch every QMJHL, OHL, and WHL game will be provided. If you’re interested in the position, send a resume and a sample or two of your writing to habseyesontheprize@gmail.com.
