Despite the fact that we’re still about five months away from the 2016 World Junior Championship, first-round pick Noah Juulsen is being projected by TSN prospect specialist Craig Button to be a part of the Canadian squad that will strive for gold in Finland during the holiday season.
Here’s what Button had to say about Montreal’s prospect:
Noah Juulsen, Montreal’s first-round pick in 2015 draft, can add offence and is a very competitive defender who has nice balance in his game. Early signs are that the defence will be a very solid group.
Juulsen mostly played with Brandon Hickey, a Boston University defender, throughout the summer showcase, earning praise for his physical play, his offensive awareness, and solid defensive play. He also spent some time alongside Carolina Hurricanes prospect Haydn Fleury.
It would be Juulsen’s first participation with the national team, however he did earn a spot on the under-17 Pacific team back in 2013-14. Juulsen turned 18 in April, which means that even if he doesn’t make Team Canada this time around, he’ll have another opportunity to crack the roster next year.
Of course, plenty can change from here to December, but it’s encouraging to see Juulsen make a name for himself on the national stage.
