Claude Julien: Shea Weber could return to the lineup next week

Montreal Canadiens captain Shea Weber looks set to return to the ice soon, according to head coach Claude Julien. Julien says the return is imminent and Weber’s first game back from injury could come as early as Tuesday in the Canadiens’ home game against Carolina Hurricanes.

Weber suffered a foot injury in last season’s opener on October 5 against the Buffalo Sabres, when he blocked a shot. Weber did not miss a game until the November 9 against the Minnesota Wild, and did not play for the rest of the season. Weber then suffered a a meniscal tear in his right knee this summer, and had arthroscopic knee surgery on the June 19 by Dr. LaPrade at the Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colorado, the expected recovery time was five to six months and recover looks to have been right in the middle of that prediction.

The Canadiens’ defence has had difficulty this season and should get a boon from their recovering captain. Weber, even if he is not 100%, will allow other players to slot into positions that suit them better.

Weber’s season debut will also be his first game as captain of the franchise.
