Catching the Torch: Noah Juulsen hits the highlight reel on two separate occasions

The Montreal Canadiens organization currently features prospects playing in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), the Western Hockey League (WHL), the USHL (United States Hockey League), and the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association). These leagues can be considered the primary conduit towards professional hockey in North America.

Here’s how the players in the aforementioned leagues performed from March 7-13:

Jeremiah Addison: Just one game for the Ottawa 67’s forward, but it was not without results. Addison marked two assists in the 5-4 overtime win over the Kingston Frontenacs. He is currently second on his team in scoring with 54 points in 63 games.

Daniel Audette: There is an ongoing offensive slump that seems to be haunting the Sherbrooke Phoenix forward. He went without a point in a 4-2 loss to the Chicoutimi Sagueneens, but did manage two assists in his next game in a 6-1 rout of the Baie-Comeau Drakkar, including this impressive setup through several defenders.

He followed up with a scoreless effort in his final game, a 4-2 loss to Chicoutimi.

Audette has just two goals in his last 13 games and his current point per game pace of 1.14 trails his previous season pace of 1.22.

Simon Bourque: The captain of the Rimouski Oceanic had a relatively light offensive output versus the pace he’s often set this season for the Rimouski Oceanic. He went without a point in his first game, a 7-1 loss to the Shawinigan Cataractes. He then marked a goal in a 3-2 win over the Gatineau Olympiques before held without a point in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Victoriaville Tigres.

Bourque dropped to 10th overall in defensive scoring in the QMJHL, but leads his own team in defensive scoring by a notable gap of 25 points.

Matt Bradley: It was a solid week for the Medicine Hat Tigers forward. He went without a point in a 4-3 win over the Prince Albert Raiders, but produced well from there. He recorded an assist in his next game, a 6-3 win over the Kootenay Ice, and matched that contribution in the rematch, which saw Medicine Hat lose 4-3. He capped off the performance by scoring the game-winning goal for his team in a 4-3 win over the Calgary Hitmen.

Noah Juulsen: There were some notable offensive highlights for the Everett Silvetips blueliner this past week. He went without a point in his first two games, a 3-2 loss to the Portland Winterhawks and a 1-0 loss to the Seattle Thunderbirds before managing a highlight-reel assist in a 4-1 loss to the Tri-City Americans.

He added to his goal totals in his fourth and final game, scoring the overtime winner in a 3-2 win over the Portland Winterhawks.

Jake Evans: It was something of a disappointing weekend for the University of Notre Dame star forward. In the opening round of the Hockey East Divisional Playoffs, Evans went without a point a 3-1 loss to Northeastern University to start the best-of-three quarter-final. He picked up an assist in his second game, which ended no better for Notre Dame as they fell 6-4 to Northeastern and were swept in the first round of the playoffs.

Evans’ season may not be over as Notre Dame still has an opportunity to be selected for the main NCAA tournament. Evans remains tied for the team scoring lead with 33 points in 36 games.

Nikolas Koberstein: It seems likely that Koberstein’s rookie NCAA season has come to a close with the University of Alaska Fairbanks. He did not play for his team in either of their games this past weekend as they were swept 2-0 by Michigan Tech in the opening round of the WCHA Divisional Playoffs. It is unlikely that Alaska Fairbanks will be selected to play in the main NCAA Tournament.

Hayden Hawkey: Hawkey continues to sit as the backup for Providence College, and he did not get the start in either of his team’s games this past weekend. Providence did sweep their first-round playoff opponent in the Hockey East playoffs, so his opportunities for playing time has not dried up just yet.

Michael McNiven: It was a very short week for the Owen Sound Attack netminder. McNiven started only one game this past week and was pulled before he could finish it, after allowing three goals on 14 shots in an eventual 8-1 loss to the Barrie Colts. McNiven’s .905 save percentage now has him ranked 12th among OHL goaltenders.
