Catching the Torch: Daniel Audette is taking over the QMJHL

The Juniors Report

The Montreal Canadiens currently feature prospects playing in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), the Western Hockey League (WHL), the USHL (United States Hockey League) and the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association). These leagues can be considered the primary conduit towards professional hockey in North America.

Here’s how the players in the aforementioned leagues performed last week:

Daniel Audette: After a brief lull in his season with Sherbrooke Phoenix, Audette is back in business as one of the top offensive threats in the QMJHL.

He opened his week marking an assist on his team’s only goal in a 3-1 loss to the Baie-Comeau Drakkar. He added a goal and assist to his totals in the following game, a 5-3 loss to the Victoriaville Tigres.

He finished his week as essentially the sole provider of scoring for Phoenix, scoring two goals and two assists, along with a shootout marker in a 5-4 shootout loss to the Shawinigan Cataractes. Audette currently leads the Phoenix in scoring with 7 goals and 14 assists through 12 games, which is also good enough to rank him fifth in the QMJHL.

Jeremiah Addison: It was not a very notable week for the Otttawa 67’s skater. He went without a point in his first game, a 4-3 win over the Windsor Spitfires.

He marked a goal and assist in his following game, a 7-4 win over the Flint Firebirds. He went scoreless in his final game, a 6-4 win over the Saginaw Spirit.

Simon Bourque: It was an unremarkable week for the Rimouski Oceanic blueliner. He went scoreless in both of his games, a 3-0 win over the Gatineau Olympiques, and a 3-2 loss to the Chicoutimi Sagueneens.

It’s been a quiet start to the season for Bourque, who has just one point in his last five games.

Matt Bradley: It was a quiet week for the Medicine Hat Tigers forward. He marked an assist in his first game, a 6-2 loss to the Regina Pats.

He matched that contribution in the next game, a 6-3 win over the Kootenay Ice. He went without a point in his final game game, a 6-0 win over the Calgary Hitmen.

Noah Juulsen: It was a short week for the star blueliner of the Everett Silvertips, as his team had only one game on their schedule. Juulsen recorded an assist on his team’s only goal in a 5-1 loss to the Portland Winterhawks. Juulsen’s two goals and three assists through four games currently have him tied for the team scoring lead.

Jake Evans: Evans is enjoying a decent start to his sophomore NCAA season with the University of Notre Dame. He went without a point in his first game, a 7-4 win over Penn State University. He recorded two assists in the following game, a 5-3 loss to Penn State.

Nikolas Koberstein; Koberstein went scoreless in his only game of the week, a 7-4 over American International College. He was scratched for the following game.

Hayden Hawkey: Hawkey continues to wait for his debut with Providence College as he did not play during the team’s one scheduled game this past week.

Michael McNiven: Sometimes excellence does not give it’s just rewards, as was the case for McNiven for most of the past week. He allowed 2 goals in 40 shots in his first start, a 2-1 loss to the Barrie Colts.

He stopped 45 of 48 shots the following night, in a 3-2 loss to the Kitchener Rangers. He finished the week with a win, stopping 20 of 23 shots in a 4-3 overtime win over the Windsor Spitfires. McNiven is currently 6th in the OHL among goaltenders for save percentage at .928,
