Canadiens vs Rangers Top Six Minutes: It just had to be Kreider

I hope this is more Habs vs Ducks than Habs vs ….just about everyone else.

I’m wearing my Torrey Mitchell t-shirt, and he’s on the starting lineup with Eller. Coincidence? I think not.

Let’s do this.

First Period

  • The Habs come out flying, and the Bell Centre is buzzing. It’s a sight and sound for sore eyes and ears.
  • The all centres line is buzzing early.
  • WELP.
  • Think of the tank. Think of the tank. Think of the tank. Think of the tank. Think of the tank. Think of the tank. Think of the tank. Think of the tank. Think of the tank. Think of the tank. Think of the tank. Think of the tank.
  • I’m not even sure that that was really Emelin’s fault. Everyone was covered properly when he made that hit…
  • CONDO
  • Yes Erik Staal, we’re confused too.
  • I PICKED MITCHELL TO SCORE FIRST. EVERY TIME I PICK SOMEONE BESIDES ELLER TO SCORE, AND MEAN IT, HE SCORES.
  • The Plekanec line wants another one, and Eller draws a penalty against Chris Kreider. Yes good. Send the bad man to the box.
  • Or you know, please don’t. Our PP is so bad.
  • Case and point. Thank you Condon.

Second Period

  • Well, that’s not the start you want.
  • One thing I will give Desharnais. He hustles, and draws a penalty.
  • But the powerplay remains abysmal. How does anyone look at this and think it’s fine?
  • sigh
  • And THAT, boys, is how you powerplay.
  • It just had to be Kreider.
  • IT JUST HAD TO BE KREIDER.
  • Emelin tried. He really did.
  • Think of the tank. Think of the tank. Think of the tank. Think of the tank. Think of the tank. Think of the tank. Think of the tank. Think of the tank. Think of the tank. Think of the tank. Think of the tank. Think of the tank.
  • DANAULT DANAULT DANAULT DANAULLLTTT DANAULT DANAULLLLLTT*
  • That…that was a nice play by Desharnais.
  • MITCHELL ALMOST SCORED
  • Byron with a really, really nice play to break up a dangerous Rangers rush, which sets up a Habs rush the other way by Galchenyuk.
  • That was a very soft crosscheck.
  • Welp. That didn’t take long

*to be sung to the Olé Olé Olé melody

Third Period

  • Therrien finally mercy-pulls his goalie, Scrivens starts the third.
  • I really, really miss P.K. Subban. I miss Gallagher and Petry. I miss everybody. I almost forget what having Price in the net feels like.
  • The delight everyone gets in saying “down goes Brown” is delightful.
  • This powerplay has been the most dangerous all night. That’s pretty sad.
  • Oh wait, now we get another one!
  • The game is so bad that Joel Hanely is getting powerplay time.
  • Ben Scrivens somehow 1. didn’t let anything in, and 2. ended up half way between the net and the wall.
  • Moore almost scored on his own net.
  • We had four minutes on the powerplay, and nothing. this is ridiculous.
  • Aaaand Eller draws another penalty. If only we had a powerplay that worked.
  • They actually moved the puck! It’s amazing!
  • And short lived. At least the Habs are as likely to be dangerous on the 4-on-4 as they are on the powerplay…
  • HAHAHAH and then they dinged Krieder for embellishment, so more 4-on-4.
  • Brown goes into Raanta, and the Rangers do not take kindly to that. And somehow the Habs end up with another powerplay? I guess they’ve decided that putting the Habs on the powerplay is punishment enough. And they’re not wrong.
  • That hurt.

EOTP 3 Stars

3) The PP couldn’t score and the penalty kill saw the red light go on twice. Coincidence?

2) Where would the Canadiens be without his five power-play points?

1) No context needed.
