Canadiens vs. Rangers second period thread

Every element of Canadiens‘ lore was present tonight to give the Montreal Canadiens their push into the 2015-16 season. The last captain to hoist the Stanley Cup for the Canadiens, Guy Carbonneau, would kick off the opening ceremony, handing the fabled torch to the next captain who will hoist the cup for the Canadiens, Max Pacioretty. It’s hard not to complain about other teams’ opening ceremonies, but not your own.

For anyone who missed it: here’s Andrei Markov trolling P.K. Subban. Also, here’s a comic I posted earlier in the summer trolling P.K. for the same thing.

The ceremony didn’t seem to affect the Canadiens to start the game, but around the 5 minute mark of the first period the Rangers took a huge jump on the Habs and were dominating the possession, at one point having a 13-6 edge in shot attempts. The only problem for the Rangers is that they weren’t hitting the net, and were actually trailing the Habs in shots on net 6-3. Both teams would get powerplay opportunities and not really generate any chances on their man-advantages. The Canadiens would find their legs around the 12 minute mark of the first period, and forced some really good saves from Henrik Lundqvist who doesn’t look like he’ll be giving up any easy goals tonight.
