Canadiens vs Flyers Top Six Minutes – Blurggggggh Edition

  • Andrew is currently on a postgame show at Montreal Hockey Talk, and you should listen here. (If you get to this Top Six Minutes after the postgame show is over, the lovely folks at Web Sports Media are usually super quick about putting the podcast up, so check and listen).
  • So… the first could have gone better, eh?
  • So… the second could also have gone better, eh?
  • So… the third could really have gone better, eh?
  • So nice of the Wells Fargo Center to give Danny Briere a standing ovation. You don’t really mean it unless you take him back, jerks.
  • (PS one of these days I’ll get around to writing about my fall trip on TAS and tell you about how Philadelphia is actually really awesome.)
  • It’s only two losses, but it would help if the Habs would try to play a little bit less like they’re trying to kill this city’s soul. It feels like ten losses right now.
  • I get a lot of crap for liking the Flyers but when they beat the Habs, I hate them almost as much as I hate the Bruins.
  • I watch the Flyers enough to know that they are not a very good team. They dominated the Habs. On the second night of a back-to-back. The team they previously played is the best one in the league. They got beat 7-2, by the way. And they dominated the Habs.
  • The Flyers’ defense is mediocre at best, and the Habs couldn’t gain the zone, couldn’t generate much offence, couldn’t get anything going, anywhere on the ice. This is around about the time I start calling for the coach’s head.
  • Pretty much the only positive was Carey Price (remember when a goalie letting in only two goals was a positive for the Flyers?) and that they killed off that five-minute penalty.
  • So glad Michael Bournival was scratched in favour of George Parros, you guys.
  • Second period. Shorthanded, the Habs get a 2-on-1, and coming up on Steve Mason, Tomas Plekanec… passes to Travis Moen. Why.

  • Not defending the Alexei Emelin hit on Steve Downie, but I would be surprised if he gets any further discipline because Downie did get hit trying to avoid the hit, it looks like. He returned to the game, although that may have been a questionable decision. Even though he’s Steve Downie, let’s all hope Steve Downie is okay.
  • Rene Bourque compliment for JD__: he is a better hockey player than George Parros.
  • The Habs may have one of the league’s top defensive pairings in Andrei Markov and P.K. Subban, but the other pairings after that are all variations of crap paired with poop.
  • I would like Claude Giroux and Sean Couturier and Wayne Simmonds and Jakub Voracek (and Vincent Lecavalier) on the Habs, let’s get them.
  • What the hell happened at the end there? Brendan Gallagher was like a mad possessed demon.
  • EOTP Third Star: There wasn’t much to work with.
  • EOTP Second Star: Seriously, when the Habs suck, it makes us sad.
  • EOTP First star: All of you who watched until the end.
  • Of course the Habs are going to lose to the Islanders. Is that even a question?
