Canadiens sign Joey MacDonald

With the performance he put on in the playoffs, combined with the fact that he’s now waiver eligible, there was just no way Dustin Tokarski would be playing for the Hamilton Bulldogs this coming season. With Robert Mayer gone, this left a gigantic hole in the goaltending position for Hamilton.

Mike Condon will be promoted from the ECHL’s Wheeling Nailers to fill the role of the backup, and the Canadiens have signed NHL/AHL veteran Joey MacDonald to take the starting reigns.

MacDonald has flirted with the NHL his whole career, but at 34 years old is now more of an emergency call up goaltender than anything, however he is nearly elite for the AHL level.

MacDonald and Condon should give the Bulldogs a solid 1-2 punch that they didn’t have when Robert Mayer was around, which should help the team out as they struggle with consistency under Sylvain Lefebvre.
