The Montreal Canadiens have announced that they’ve agreed to terms with defensive prospect Simon Bourque. It’s a standard entry-level contract deal, which will last three years.

Bourque was a sixth-round pick back in 2015, going 177th overall. In 245 career QMJHL games, split between Rimouski and Saint John, Bourque has produced 40 goals and 104 assists.
His offensive prowess was evident, and despite being a late pick Bourque has impressed Habs management enough to earn a contract.
The Canadiens currently have 48/50 players under contract, seeing as Bourque’s contract only kicks in next season. It remains to be seen if prospects Jeremiah Addison and Matt Bradley earn a contract in the following weeks.
With NCAA free agent season upon us, the next signing announced by the Habs may very well come from the college route.
