It’s been nearly two full seasons now that the Montreal Canadiens‘ powerplay has been near the bottom of the NHL. With players like Tomas Plekanec, P.K. Subban, Andrei Markov, and Max Pacioretty on the roster, that’s hard to believe. So what’s the problem there? We investigate and discuss.

Over the last couple years, analysts have begun to notice a trend among Canadian NHL teams, they’re not getting any better, and most of them are getting worse. The Canadiens being the only playoff team among them last year shone a light on that, but the situation isn’t much better this year. We call in Thomas Drance of the Nation Network to help us figure out what’s going on.

With just 11 games left in the regular season, the Habs are playing their worst hockey in years, getting outchanced at nearly the same rate as the Buffalo Sabres. What’s happening there, and is there an ideal opponent in the first round that the Habs should be shooting for?
